Will You Listen to the Yearning of Your Soul or the Call to Be Comfortable?

“Normality is a paved road: It’s comfortable to walk, but no flowers grow.”  Vincent van Gogh

Life is lived in constant tension between the gravitational call to be comfortable and the yearning of the soul to experience the adventure of life.  The beauty is found in the uncommon, not the familiar.

“If you are always trying to be normal, you will never know how amazing you can be.”  Maya Angelou

“Normal” is such a strange word, concept really.  Rarely is there a standard by which to measure the norm.  In actuality, “normal” is just an acceptable way to say you fit in, that you are just like everyone else.  The very pursuit of homogenizing yourself with the crowd is the very act that diminishes the rarity and the beauty of who you are, who you alone can be.

“To be normal is the ideal aim of the unsuccessful.”  Carl Jung

Your greatest successes in life will come when you stand out from the crowd, not when you fit it.  Find your place in the world, be yourself, and see just how amazing you can be.
